County Donegal
County Donegal is the 3rd largest and most northern county in Ireland. The dramatic, rugged, coast has been shaped by the Atlantic Ocean and its shoreline has a multitude of glorious quiet sandy beaches. Overlooking much of this coastland are rugged mountains and hills, which are the source of the water to feed the rivers and lakes.

Salmon and trout (both sea and fresh water) abound. The county remains sparsely populated due to its thousands of acres of mountain, bog, moor and lakeland.
Donegal is one of the last true wildernesses left in Europe. Donegal Town, originally a plantation town, is by contrast a busy market town. In the town centre sits the restored ruins of Donegal Castle, the 15th century seat of power of the O’Donnells.
