County Leitrim
County Leitrim is one of Ireland’s least populated counties. It is
a county of contrasts; mountains, lakes, waterfalls and moor-lands, with
a 2 ½ mile coastline which lies between Sligo and Donegal. Leitrim
attracts fishermen, walkers and cyclists.
The capital county town is Carrick-on-Shannon situated on the Erne Shannon waterway; a labyrinth of rivers and lakes which passes through the unspoilt countryside of Leitrim to Fermanagh.
The Victorian brick canal which has 34 bridges and state–of-the-art technology to open the locks, was completed in 1993, as a cross border peace symbol.
